The 3rd Shanghai Jiao Tong University Young Scholars Forum on Environment and Sustainable Development was held on June 20-21, 2020. As a sub-forum of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of the first "Zhiyuan" International Young Scholars Forum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, this online forum attracted young experts from top universities and scientific research institutions around the globe, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan. Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering Geng Yong, Party Secretary Hu Weiwei, and more than 20 representative professors attended this forum. The opening ceremony was hosted by Hu Weiwei, and the academic reports were hosted by Professor Zhao Yixin, Professor Long Mingce, and Professor Lou Ziyang.

On the morning of June 20, the first "Zhiyuan" International Young Scholars Forum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University opened. Party Committee Secretary Yang Zhenbin of Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered an address. Executive Vice President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Ding Kuiling, Vice President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Huang Zhen, Vice President Xi Lifeng, Vice President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Mao Junfa, and head of relevant departments and academies attended the meeting. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Fan Chunhai and Wu Jianbo, a representative of outstanding young teachers, spoke at the ceremony. Meanwhile, nearly a thousand young scholars from all around the globe attended the meeting simultaneously via Internet connection.

Thereafter, the Forum of Young Scholars on Environment and Sustainable Development officially opened.

Geng Yong delivered a welcome speech and introduced the academy to participants. He made an introduction on the overall situation of the college in terms of its historical evolution, faculty, discipline construction, scientific research, international cooperation, social services, and talent development, etc., expounding the status quo and future plans of the college's discipline development. Participants were encouraged to apply for various work position at the college and were warmly welcomed to join Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and to make greater contributions in their respective academic fields.

During this forum, 17 young scholars from top universities and research institutions around the world conducted outstanding academic reports through online videos from different research directions, introducing their respective cutting-edge research and latest achievements in the field of environmental disciplines. Discussions on the online academic report were enthusiastic, and the scholars at the forum had full discussions and idea exchanges.

The School of Environmental Science and Engineering always puts the construction of a first-class talent team in the first place during the construction of first-class disciplines, and continues to promote the policies of "simultaneous introduction and education" and "institutional incentives” for talents. The college continuously optimizes the structure of the talent team, and promotes the development of the talent team. On this forum, young scholars from all over the world in the environmental field gathered online focusing on academic frontiers and discussing subject hotspots. They have promoted the academic exchanges and cooperation, and played a positive role in giving impetus to the construction of first-class environmental disciplines and the enrichment of the reserve talent think tank.
